A Carihi Secondary School student has undertaken a HUGE challenge this year, pitting her school against many others across the country to raise funds, raise awareness, and hopefully win a visit from Rick Mercer!Spread the Net was born when Belinda Stronach and Rick Mercer travelled to Africa in 2006 with Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University and at that time, the Director of the UN Millennium Project. It was there that they saw first hand the devastating effects of malaria, and the shockingly simple bed net solution so out-of-reach for many thousands of African families.
Since then, the 'Spread the Net' efforts have successfully provided more than 500,000 nets, which have helped protect the lives of some 2.5 million children and pregant women in Liberia and Rwanda.
Every $10 can purchase a bed net for a child in Africa - a simple, effective, inexpensive way to make a BIG difference. The Canadian school that raises the most money, will ALSO win a visit from Rick Mercer! Carihi is currently in the top 10. Let's help them reach the top!
