Nyrstar has pleaded guilty in provincial court to releasing untreated acidic wash water into Myra Creek. In September 2014, Myra Falls Mine reported the spill, and samples collected by Environment and Climate Change Canada confirmed that the waste water was harmful to fish. Nyrstar has been ordered to pay a fine of $185,000, most of which will be given to the Environmental Damages Fund. Nystar has also been added to the Environmental Offenders Registry.
