RCMP are warning residents about a scam that’s making its way around Campbell River. Constable Sara Clark says members have received several calls about a door-to-door salesman offering security services. In this particular scam, the male asks homeowner if they would like a free security system that is done through a smartphone. In exchange for the system the homeowner agrees to placing a sign advertising for the company on their front lawn. The male has not produced identification and the company does not exist. RCMP would like the public to be aware of these types of scams which sometimes are done by people looking to get information on the resident and their neighborhood for future crimes. Campbell River City bylaws require that all door to door or direct salesperson display an identification card which has their legal name and business affiliation, as well as have a copy of a business licence. If anyone is in contact with someone who cannot produce proper identification or they feel is soliciting unlawfully they can contact Campbell River City Bylaws at (250)286-5776 or Campbell River RCMP at (250)286-6221.
