The Province is once again providing funding for emergency shelter spaces in Coutenay. Brent Hobden, with the Salvation Army, says Pidcock House located on Pidcock Ave will offer additional extreme weather spaces. “So when it gets nasty outside whether it’s raining, a hard storm is blowing, snow from off the mountains, whatever it is, the BC Government has allowed us extra funding that will allow us extra funding in order to put 15 mats into the shelter that is in addition to the 18 beds that we already have,” states Hobden. He says this program started about 2 weeks ago, and they have already seen a significantly higher amount of people getting out of the cold. The temporary shelter spaces will be available until March 31st, 2017.
