BC Ferries newest vessel is on its way to BC from a shipyard in Poland. Spokesperson Deborah Marshall says the Salish Orca is expected to arrive in BC waters in January 2017. Once the vessel arrives there will be a final inspection. Once the company takes official possession, then they will conduct crew training. BC Ferries plans to hold a few open houses with the vessels in the Comox and Powell River areas. “This will be our first natural gas powered vessel,” states Marshall. The Salish Orca will be replacing the Queen of Burnaby on the Comox-Powell River route. The vessel is expected to begin service in the spring of 2017.
