Unionized workers at the Lafarge mining operation on Texada Island remain off the job. They were locked out by the company on October 17th, 2016, in a contract dispute over seniority. Earl Graham with the Steelworkers Union Local 816, says there’s no sign that the company is willing to get back to the bargaining table. “I’ve spoken with their negotiator on a few occasions and asked the question if there’s any movement in taking the seniority proposal off the table which would take away our seniority rights,” states Graham. “There has been no movement or any indication for her to come back to the table and remove that proposal.” Graham says the 75 workers are vowing to hold their ground. Union members have been without a contract since May.
