Students and parents can look forward to smaller class sizes and more teachers and resources this September. The B-C Teachers’ Federation reached a tentative deal with the province yesterday that restores regulations around class size and composition from a 2002 agreement. The new deal is a result of a Supreme Court ruling in November that found provincial legislation blocking teachers from negotiating class size was unconstitutional. The teachers’ union says school districts will now need to figure out how many teachers they’ll need to reduce class sizes, and the number of potential hires is likely in the thousands.
