The B-C S-P-C-A says 20 dogs and seven horses have been seized from a property where they were left unattended south of Burns Lake. S-P-C-A constable Dale Bakken says seven of the dogs — primarily Australian shepherds and mixed breeds — were puppies that were just days old, while the horses included pregnant mares and very underweight yearlings. Bakken says the owner does not live on the remote property in Cheslatta and the animals were left outdoors with no water and limited access to food. The rescue team had to take a ferry to remove the animals, which are now being cared for at the North Cariboo S-P-C-A branch and a Prince George equine rescue group.
