Fisheries and Oceans Canada says most of the recommendations made in a 2012 report on revitalizing B-C’s sockeye salmon run have been acted on. But the federal department says only 1.5 million salmon have so far returned to the Fraser River — well below the 4.4 million forecasted for this year’s stock. Jennifer Nener, director of the department’s salmon management, says warmer temperatures in the Pacific Ocean may be largely to blame. Plans are in the works to implement a new wild salmon policy and consultations with First Nations and others are expected to take place this fall.
