BC Budget Update

/ 97.3 The Eagle
B-C’s finance minister says she’s optimistic about the province’s bottom line, despite a shrinking surplus. Carole James released the province’s second quarter fiscal update yesterday, which shows a projected surplus of 190 million dollars for the 2017-18 budget — 56 million less than the N-D-P forecast earlier this year. The update still projects the economy will grow by 2.9 per cent, but government revenue has dropped by 283 million dollars and James says that’s due to less money being collected in personal and corporate income tax. James says she expects the growth projections to continue, but Liberal finance critic Shirley Bond says numbers in the update only reflect the fiscal discipline of the former government.
