The union representing B-C teachers is looking to boost salaries and update class size and composition standards, when their contract negotiations open in less than 10 months. B-C Teachers’ Federation president Glen Hansman says that official bargaining priorities won’t be set until this fall, but it’s safe to say those will be among them. He said B-C continues to suffer a staffing shortage and salaries could make a difference. Education Minister Rob Fleming has said a record 35-hundred positions were filled last year and the ministry continues to work on recruitment and retention issues.
