A flotilla of American kayakers took to the water yesterday to protest Kinder Morgan’s Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project. Thirty Seattle residents paddled toward one of the company’s large oil barges at the Port of Seattle, saying they want to put the spotlight on the company’s operations at its oil terminal there. The protesters are calling on Washington Governor Jay Inslee to create better safety regulations of oil barges in the Salish Sea and block expansion of the company’s Puget Sound pipeline through Washington State. The Trans Mountain pipeline is set to triple the flow of oil products from Alberta to the B-C coast by twinning an existing pipeline.
