The B-C government says it will consider recommendations on fish farms issued in a 230-page report from an advisory council. The council says fish farm companies should be required to have agreements in place with area First Nations before the province approves any new or replacement tenures. Agriculture Minister Lana Popham says the government will consider the recommendations as it reviews 20 tenures up for renewal this June in the Broughton Archipelago off northeastern Vancouver Island. Many fish farms in the archipelago have been occupied by protesters who say the facilities are operating in First Nations’ traditional territories without consent.
