Federal Finance Minister Bill Morneau says he doesn’t think public threats are helpful in efforts to ensure the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion goes ahead. Morneau made the comment in Toronto this morning when he was asked if withholding transfer payments to B-C remains an option. He would only say the federal government is looking at several options to ensure the project gets built, including a potential financial stake after Kinder Morgan suspended all non-essential spending on the expansion due to threats by B-C’s N-D-P government to block it. But Morneau says any such investment would require closed-door talks with Kinder Morgan, B-C Premier John Horgan and Alberta Premier Rachel Notley.
