Premier John Horgan says his government is spending five million dollars to build new playgrounds and upgrade old ones at schools across the province. The announcement means 25 schools will have new play areas and another 26 will get upgraded spaces by the time the new school year starts in the fall. Horgan says the funding will lift the burden off volunteer-run parent councils who often have to fundraise for new or upgraded equipment. Jen Mezei, president of the B-C Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils, says playgrounds should not be dependent on a school community’s capacity to raise money.
