Federal N-D-P Leader Jagmeet Singh is coming down on British Columbia’s side of the Trans Mountain battle, after months of trying to stay neutral. The feud has pitted New Democrat premiers in Alberta and B-C against each other in a growing dispute over energy and environmental policy. Singh had previously called for a more thorough environmental review of the proposal to triple capacity along an existing pipeline between Edmonton and Burnaby, but now says he is 100 per cent opposed. Singh, who does not currently have a seat in the House of Commons, denied suggestions that an expected federal byelection in Burnaby had anything to do with his position on the pipeline.
