Premier John Horgan says planned federal ownership of the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion doesn’t change his concerns about the project. The federal Liberal government will spend 4.5-billion dollars to buy the pipeline and all of Kinder Morgan Canada’s core assets while the company has agreed to resume work on the project — which it suspended last month amid opposition by B-C — while the deal is finalized. But both Horgan and Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson say Ottawa’s decision to buy the Trans Mountain pipeline doesn’t reduce the risk of an oil spill. The premier says his government will proceed with its reference case to the B-C Court of Appeal to determine whether B-C has the right to regulate oil shipments to protect its environment.
