The vast majority of B-C residents say they want so-called “scalper bots” banned from snatching up event tickets online and reselling them to music and sports fans at bloated prices. The ministry of the solicitor general says 6,500 people responded to a survey that will inform the minister’s decisions about regulating the online ticket sales market. About 97 per cent say they want the government to ban bots that use algorithms to bypass limits on the number of tickets one person can buy online. Minister Mike Farnworth says the next steps for the province include further consultation with the music industry and looking at policies in other jurisdictions.
