A 25-year-old Comox Valley man has been arrested and charged with one count of arson in connecting with a fire that severely damaged the only school on Hornby Island a week before classes were set to begin.
R-C-M-P say the suspect, whose name is under a publication ban, was taken into custody in Courtenay.
The fire broke out in the early hours of Sunday, August 26th, and rendered a large part of the Hornby Island Community School unsafe and unusable.
The 40 or so students enrolled at the school kicked off their semester yesterday at a three-day program at the Tribune Bay Outdoor Education Centre and the Comox Valley School District is looking for a longer term solution which may involve portables.
