Post-secondary students are planning rallies across the country demanding free education. Billan Arte with the Canadian Federation of Students says eliminating tuition fees will encourage more people to enroll in post-secondary schools. She says years of cuts to post-secondary schools have driven up the cost of higher education. “We already have a working model of free education in Canada if we look at college system in Quebec,” continues Arte. “The Trudeau government also made a lot of commitments to youth on access to education during the federal election, so at this point I thinks it’s whether or not the government is actually going to put their buck where their commitments were during the last election.” Arte states students should have the right to a post-secondary education, if they choose to go that route.
