Drivers are being advised to slow down on the highway when there’s heavy rain. Cumberland Fire Chief Mike Williamson says vehicles can easily hydroplane. He says drivers need to remember to refrain from using your cruise control, watch for flash flooding, and most importantly slow down. Williamson continues saying at least one car hydroplanes every time it rains. “When you feel yourself hydroplaning, take your foot off the gas and keep the steering wheel straight. You should be able to ride through it. Don’t try to correct yourself because if you correct too far, when you come out of the hydroplane you could be on another track somewhere.” Drivers are advised to drive to the weather conditions.
