A new report on forestry safety says access to medical treatment for injured workers in rural areas is too slow. The B-C Forest Safety Ombudsman has released a report saying those workers sometimes wait hours before being evacuated to hospital. Roger Harris is calling for improved standards, citing Alaska and Washington where legislation requires injured residents must be on their way to an emergency facility within 60 minutes. Harris notes there are no infrastructure barriers to ensuring the arrival of an air ambulance within the critical first hour — and says the decision by government not to provide that access is a choice.
