The president of the B-C Lumber Trade Council says the Canadian industry wants to work co-operatively with the U-S to grow the lumber market and find a resolution to the softwood lumber dispute between the two countries. Susan Yurkovich says restricting Canadian lumber supply will cause house prices in the U-S to spike, pushing home ownership out of reach for some Americans. Yurkovich and B-C’s Forests Minister Steve Thomson met with federal representatives in Ottawa today, to emphasize the importance of getting a new softwood deal done quickly. Thomson says 50 per cent of B-C’s softwood lumber is targeted for the U-S market.
