2016 census numbers show that some of the larger centres across the region had population gains over 2011. Jeff Randle with Stats-Can says the increases range from point-six per cent in Powell River to 10.4 per cent in Cumberland. Cumberland’s population rose to more than 37-hundred in 2016. City of Courtenay’s population increased 5.7 per cent to more than 25-thousand. Town of Comox saw its population rise 2.9 per cent to more than 14-thousand. In Campbell River, the population increased 5.4 per cent to more than 32-thousand.
