B-C’s Finance Minister says claims that the government is failing to offset the carbon tax with credits to taxpayers will be proven “moot” come Tuesday’s budget announcement. The Fraser Institute, a right-wing think tank, released a report yesterday saying the province cost taxpayers in upwards of 150-million dollars in 2014-15 for failing to offer new tax credits to offset revenues from the carbon tax. Mike de Jong disagreed with how the study made its calculations, and says the institute may have a very different opinion once the provincial budget is released. He wouldn’t comment on the details of the budget but says the government has been discussing tax reductions.
