The province has introduced legislative amendments that would give authorities more time to complete investigations into wildfires and to recover costs for fires caused by people. The Liberal government says the changes will give wildfire investigators three years to complete their work and initiate any required enforcement proceedings. They will also give the government more time to recover costs of controlling human-cause fires, to levy penalties or to require violators to carry out remediation efforts. The amendments would also allow the launch of a new online licensing system for hunters.
