Members of a Vancouver Island First Nation have voted 70 per cent in favour of a liquefied natural gas facility in their traditional territory. The Huu-ay-aht First Nation says in a news release that it made history on Saturday when it became the first in B-C to approve the co-management development of an L-N-G plant. Chief Robert Dennis said in 2015 that the Huu-ay-aht had been talking with Vancouver-based Steelhead about the Sarita Bay facility near Port Alberni. He said those negotiations had covered environmental, cultural and economic issues but had not yet included a financial offer.
