B-C government says it has reached a tentative agreement with the B-C Road Builders group and the B-C Government and Service Employees’ Union on labour succession in 27 highway maintenance service areas. Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Todd Stone says the agreement will bring savings of 180 million dollars over 15 years. The province says the savings will be reinvested in increased maintenance standards, resulting in better winter maintenance, increased sweeping along cycling routes and more communication with the public on road conditions. The 27 service area contracts will be tendered before they expire starting in 2018, as part of an open, competitive bidding process.
