A ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of the Battle at Vimy Ridge was held under bright blue skies at the Canadian National Vimy Memorial. Thousands of Canadians were there to honour the 36-hundred who died and the seven-thousand who were wounded during the battle in northern France. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and members of the royal family were among the dignitaries. Prince Charles spoke on behalf of the Queen. He said Canadians displayed a strength of character and commitment to one another that is still evident today
