A Sunday afternoon fishing trip turned tragic in waters off Tofino. Two people are dead and three others were treated and released from hospital after their 8.5-metre-long catamaran capsized near Bartlett Island, north of Tofino. Rescue officials based in Victoria say someone aboard the charter fishing vessel made a distress call when it started taking on water. Coast Guard rescue boats and two military aircraft were dispatched to search, and one of two commercial float planes also responding to the call for help spotted people in the water and directed rescuers to the location. All five people were recovered from the water by passerby boats, but two were pronounced dead at hospital.
