A bylaw banning new whales, dolphins and porpoises from being brought to the Vancouver Aquarium has been approved by the city’s park board. The board voted six to one in favour of the bylaw last night, following years of debate over whether cetaceans should be kept in captivity on park board property. The aquarium will be allowed to keep the three cetaceans that currently live at the facility in Stanley Park, but the animals are now prohibited from being used in shows or performances. Aquarium president John Nightingale says the organization is keeping its options open in terms of addressing the ban.
