One Victoria school will be a cellphone-free zone come September. Central Middle School currently allows students to bring their phones to class for learning use, but the school’s principal has sent a letter to parents saying that will change next fall. The letter says students will no longer be allowed to bring cellphones or Internet-connected iPods to school because teachers are finding the devices are impacting instruction and learning. The B-C Teacher’s Federation says there’s no provincial policy on cellphones in the classroom, so it’s up to schools to set their own expectations for students.
