B-C’s chief coroner says it’s concerning that more than half of the 136 suspected overdose deaths in the province last month happened in private residences. Lisa Lapointe says that suggests many drug users are still not taking advantage of safe consumption sites. Lapointe urged illicit drug users to only use drugs in the presence of someone who can administer the overdose-reversing drug naloxone and call 9-1-1 if necessary. The coroners’ service says April’s total is almost double the number of deaths during the same month last year.
