B-C Wildfire Service says effective at noon on Wednesday, category 2 open fires will be prohibited throughout the Coastal Fire Centre, except in Haida Gwaii and in the “fog zone” along the west coast of Vancouver Island. With the exception of campfires under a half-metre in height, the ban prohibits the burning of any materials smaller than two metres high by three metres wide, and also bans stubble or grass fires, fireworks and burning barrels. The wildfire service says the ban will remain in effect at least until October 20th.
