The lead author of a new study on prescription drug pricing says Canada needs a national drug plan so the federal government can negotiate lower prices in bulk and bring down prices to benefit people who currently can’t afford them. Professor Steven Morgan at the University of British Columbia says in looking at drug costs for six common conditions such as high blood pressure and depression, Canada had the second-highest prices in 2015 when compared to nine other wealthy countries with universal health care. Canada’s drug costs averaging 158-dollars per person was second only to Switzerland.
