A referendum on electoral reform was among the items promised in the throne speech from Premier Christy Clark’s Liberal government, which is expected to be defeated soon in a confidence vote. The speech includes several ideas that the N-D-P and Green party put forward during last month’s provincial election, which ended in B-C’s first minority government in 65 years. The speech says the Liberals would eliminate tolls on the Port Mann and Golden Ears bridges in Metro Vancouver, cut medical services premiums and establish a royal commission on education. It also includes plans to raise monthly welfare rates by 100 dollars and spend one billion dollars on early childhood education.
