Green party Leader Andrew Weaver is accusing the Liberal government of releasing an unaudited fiscal update out of political calculation. The update showing the province had a higher-than-expected 2.8-billion dollar surplus last year comes one day before the minority Liberal government is expected to be defeated by the N-D-P and the Greens. Finance Minister Mike de Jong says the surplus helped support a bevy of new promises in the Liberal throne speech. Weaver says it remains to be seen if the unaudited numbers hold up — but de Jong says he thought it was appropriate to disclose the state of the books as there is likely to be a transfer of power on Thursday.
