B-C’s new premier says he regrets having to extend a state of emergency for two more weeks due to wildfires sweeping across the Interior. But John Horgan says his N-D-P government’s first priority is to support the more than 45-thousand people displaced by the fires. The current state of emergency expires Friday and the fires — which have already burned more than 35-hundred square kilometres — show no sign of slowing. Horgan says those kept out of their homes for more than 14 days will get a second payment of 600 dollars, from a previously announced 100-million-dollar fund administered by the Canadian Red Cross.
