B-C Teachers’ federation is welcoming the N-D-P government’s move to eliminate fees for adult basic education and English language learning courses across the province. Union president Glen Hansman says reversing the cuts to adult education that were made by the previous Liberal government will help a lot of people who want to upgrade their skills and get better-paying jobs. The Liberals brought in tuition fees for the programs in 2015, with fees for the courses set by schools and capped at 16-hundred dollars for each semester of full-time studies. Hansman says school districts like Vancouver that closed facilities and cut programs should act quickly to reopen and restore those spaces and the fill the necessary teaching positions.
