There are no serious injuries after an American fishing boat caught fire off Gabriola Island yesterday afternoon. Lieutenant Commander John Nethercott with the Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre says the 22-metre vessel called the Sea Valley Two had five people on board when a distress call came in around 4;40 p-m. He says the cause of the fire is still unknown, but all five people were rescued by another nearby vessel and then taken to shore by a coast guard hovercraft.
