Indigenous rights, environmental, and social justice activists staged sit-ins at the offices of B-C’s provincial N-D-P Ministers in protest of open pen fish farms. Hereditary Chief Ernest Alfred has been involved in the call to remove open pen fish farms from B-C waters. Alfred says the fish farms threaten wild fish stocks and the traditional food fishery of coastal First Nations communities. Activists are calling on the N-D-P government to keep their promise to remove the farms, something First Nations have been asking previous governments to do for decades.
