A ban on open fires that has been in place throughout the Coastal Fire Centre since early July is being lifted at noon on Friday. The centre says recent rainfall and cooler temperatures have reduced wildfire risks in the region. Category 2 and 3 open fires will be permitted, as well as the use of tiki torches, burn barrels, fireworks, sky lanterns and binary exploding targets. A campfire ban that had also been in place for most of the summer amid the worst wildfire season in provincial history was lifted 10 days ago.
