The hopefuls for B-C’s Liberal leadership debated face-to-face for the first time in Surrey. The field of candidates includes three members of Christy Clark’s pre-election cabinet and there was much discussion around why the party lost seats and was eventually dumped from power in a confidence vote after 16 years in office. Andrew Wilkinson says the party spent too much time talking about its wider economic success and didn’t listen to voters who were feeling the pinch while Dianne Watts says the party needs to change in order to have a chance at winning the next election. There are seven candidates in the race and party members are set to vote for the new leader in February.
