Ninety-five people forced from their homes by a deadly ammonia leak at an ice rink in Fernie have been allowed to return. Fire Chief Ted Ruiter says an evacuation order for 55 homes was lifted yesterday because lab results show there’s no longer a safety risk in the area. The ammonia leak at the Fernie Memorial Arena killed three men Tuesday, including two City of Fernie workers and a contractor with a refrigeration company. Ruiter says the arena and community centre will remain closed as investigations into the leak continue, but other city operations are expected to resume this morning.
