A new report that concludes hunting is not the greatest threat to British Columbia’s grizzly bear populations is being welcomed by the provincial government. Auditor General Carol Bellringer says the government estimates there are 15-thousand grizzly bears in B-C and hunters kill up to three hundred grizzlies every year. She says in her report released yesterday that roadbuilding and expanding communities are greater threats to grizzly bear populations than hunting. Forests Minister Doug Donaldson says the government accepts the ten recommendations in the report and pledges to develop a new grizzly bear management policy.
