B-C Energy Minister Michelle Mungall says she expects the government will make a decision by the end of the year on the fate of the 8.3-billion Site C dam. Mungall said she and Indigenous Relations Minister Scott Fraser will meet this month with Treaty 8 First Nations impacted by the project, and will also take other First Nations interests into account. The British Columbia Utilities Commission concluded in its final report on the project that the dam is unlikely to be completed by 2024 and could end up costing 20 to 50 per cent more than was budgeted. The N-D-P government had asked the commission to examine the economic viability of the megaproject, which was a signature job-creation initiative of former Liberal premier Christy Clark.
