Fellow baseball players and other pro athletes took to social media to express their grief upon learning of Tuesday’s death of former Toronto Blue Jays star pitcher Roy Halladay. The two-time Cy Young Award winner died after the tiny sport plane he was flying crashed in the Gulf of Mexico north of Tampa, Florida. The Toronto Blue Jays organization said it is “overcome by grief with the tragic loss of one the franchise’s greatest and most respected players.” Retired former Jays teammate Vernon Wells tweeted, “I had a front row seat to watch his greatness,” and Hall of Famer Frank Thomas called Doc Halladay “the hardest working teammate ever.”
