The provincial government has announced the appointment of B-C’s first innovation commissioner. Alan Winter will be an advocate and ambassador for the B-C technology sector in Ottawa, in the U-S and abroad for one year — with the option to extend the appointment based on performance. The creation of an innovation commissioner is part of an agreement with the B-C Green party aimed at helping the tech sector access the capital, as well as the national and international connections it needs to succeed. The Green party says Winter’s distinguished career as a leader in innovation makes him the right person to champion the tech sector and to help B-C companies more easily tap into existing federal programs.
