The price of gas in B-C is expected to reach new peaks, as a provincial carbon tax took effect on April 1st. It’s the first of four annual increases to the province’s carbon tax, adding 1.22 cents to the cost of a litre of gas. GasBuddy.com analyst Dan McTeague says that, combined with a seasonal change and a chronic shortage of supply, the tax could push the price of a litre in Metro Vancouver to a dollar-sixty-one by the end of the week. Premier John Horgan says he doesn’t believe drivers will “begrudge that penny,” knowing it’s been earmarked to fund green initiatives.
