Canadian Taxpayers Federation says it will be seeking intervener status in a court reference launched by B-C in its attempt to halt the Trans Mountain pipeline expansion. Premier John Horgan is asking the courts to rule on whether the province has the power to regulate oil shipments, which could effectively block interprovincial pipelines even if they’ve received federal approval. The federation’s director Aaron Wudrick says it’s critical that the interests of Canadian taxpayers be represented at the proceedings. Wudrick says clarifying the appropriate areas of federal and provincial jurisdiction will help enhance political accountability by allowing Canadians to hold the proper level of government responsible for their policy choices.
